Travel by road
The A9 south links Inverness with Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, and the largest city, Glasgow. It continues north across the Kessock Bridge to the Northern Highlands of Scotland. To the east, the A96 links Inverness to the seaside holiday resort of Nairn and on to Aberdeen. To the south-west, the A82 winds along beautiful Loch Ness to Fort Augustus and on to Fort William, and linking with the route to the romantic Isle of Skye.
Regular buses link Inverness with other Highland communities and express coaches run to the main cities of Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.
